The Holidays Blues and Mental Health Resources

December 16 2021

As we draw closer to the extended holiday break and the celebrations that come, let us remember that this time of year may not be a time of celebration for all. Whether there is loss, family strain, stress, or loneliness, there can be many reasons why this season may not be full of cheer and joy for some. Please take some time to reflect on how to support the mental wellness of ourselves and others around us.

NAMI California has composed a list and article discussing some of the ways to handle holiday stress, especially with the added stress of the ongoing Pandemic. These tips include:

·        Accept your needs (placing our own physical and mental well-being first)

·        Be Realistic (Holidays don’t have to be perfect, even if we want them to be)

·        Set Boundaries

·        Set aside time for yourself and prioritize self-care

Please also remember the following resources in case of a mental health crisis during the holidays!

National Suicide Prevention Line  - 1-800-273-8255

Crisis Text Line – Text NAMI to 741-741

Texas Youth Helpline – Call or Text 1-800-989-6884

Remember to give yourself space to reflect and destress this holiday season and encourage others to do the same.  The best gift to give is support, to yourself and others.
