Cure Stigma

October 8 2018

Good morning LEE & ISA staff!  This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week across the United States.  Each day this week I’m going to send out some information & facts about mental health and wellness to keep us all thinking about this very important topic.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) - Approximately 1 in 5 youth aged 13–18 (21.4%) experiences a severe mental disorder at some point during their life.  For children aged 8–15, the estimate is 13%.

Another fact - 50% of all lifetime causes of mental illness begin by age 14.  This means that nearly 20% of the students you encounter every day are experiencing a mental health issue.  So, what can you do?  NAMI’s campaign this week is focused on curing the stigma of mental health.  Click Here to take the very short quiz and find out more about their campaign!
