Engaging Parents

The One in Five Minds campaign was created to raise awareness about children's mental illness, to break down stigma and to increase access to treatment. One in Five Minds’ goal is that no one will be afraid to speak about mental illness and that all children in Bexar County who need treatment will be able to access it. We publish educational article, videos and guides on our website, hold learning events open to the public, promote support and learning options in the community, advocate for causes that help children and families. Mainly, our goal is to provide important information, resources and a community so that families no longer struggle alone.

Referring parents to 1in5minds resources allow them to read about children’s mental health in the privacy of their own home. You can give them the 1in5minds.org website address, email them a specific article about a mental health issue or send them a link to download a handbook.

Strong Minds Happy Hearts

Parents can often feel overwhelmed with all the information that is out there regarding children’s mental health and illness. To help provide education and tools, One in Five Minds teams up with local schools districts and local partners to bring Strong Minds and Happy Hearts- A Conversation on Children's Mental Wellness to parents and caregivers in the community.

Strong Minds and Happy Hearts is designed to raise awareness for children’s mental wellness, educates parents and family members and encourages them to seek help for their child if needed. This FREE 2.5 hour event includes table conversations, community resources and breakout sessions covering topics like the warning signs of mental illness, how to work with your school, what to do about substance abuse, and more.
