About Kim Sayers
Who I am
I work for Communities in Schools of San Antonio and am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. I have over 10 years of counseling experience, including two years of experience in supervising counseling interns. Born and raised in San Antonio, I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2004 and then enrolled at the University of Texas at San Antonio where I received my Master of Arts degree in Community Counseling in 2007.
I have worked for Communities In Schools of San Antonio for over 10 years in a variety of educational settings. All of my work has been with at-risk students and has included assisting teachers and administrators in how to appropriately respond to their student’s unique and challenging needs.
As of February 2018, I am also a Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner through the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University. TBRI is a trauma-informed intervention model used for a wide range of childhood behavioral problems which utilizes the principles of Connecting, Empowering, and Correcting to assist teachers and caregivers in meeting the complex needs of vulnerable children.
I currently reside in Pipe Creek, TX with my husband, Michael, and our two little girls, four-year-old Emma and two-year-old Madelyn.
As the Social-Emotional Wellness Coach my goal is to help you understand your students with complex needs. Behavior issues from one student interfere not only with their learning, but also the learning of every other student in your class. I will help as follow:
- Help you better understand the needs behind your student’s behaviors by utilizing TBRI strategies, which means you will become trauma-informed
- Help you understand how to communicate with students with social and emotional needs
- Help you communicate with parents about their child’s needs and to advocate for the needs of all of your students inside and outside of the school setting
These strategies allow you to focus more time on teaching than on correcting, which means your time in the classroom becomes more productive.
How to connect with me
I am available to meet in your classroom or in my office by appointment, or you can walk-in anytime between 8-4:30pm Monday-Friday. If you need an appointment outside of those normal work hours, please let me know and I can make arrangements to meet your appointment needs. I am also available to meet with teams of teachers, if you are interested.
